Edith Falls

We left Katherine and drove just a short ways down the road to Edith Falls, also known as Leliyn Falls and part of Nitmiluk National Park. We set up in the campground, and then wandered over to the lower swimming area for a quick dip.

The water was great, and very clear, but the crocodile cage just a little ways down stream was a little concerning!! As was the sign that said the risk of a salty was low but be on the lookout!! Thought we were quite a ways from the coast, but obviously they are great swimmers and happy to come down this far in search of a good feed!! People here aren't even concerned about freshies, as apparently they'll just bite you but won't kill you.  Well that's a huge relief!!

We went back to camp for a bite to eat before we hiked the circuit loop around Edith Falls, which encompasses a few swimming holes. We stopped along the way for a lookout or two.

The hike was great, hard enough to work up a bit of a sweat, and thus we were ready for a swim when we reached the upper pools. These too were very clear and had a great waterfall that the kids sat under once they had made it over there. The current was a bit strong!

Thankfully we didn't see the snake lazing on the rocks until we were leaving.  No way in heck would I have got in otherwise!

Once we got back we went for another quick swim in the lower pool near camp before cooking a BBQ for dinner and had an early night.
