Katherine Gorge

Today we hit Katherine Gorge, also known as Nitmiluk Gorge, home to the Jawoyn people. It is also the home of a million bats, and it was a little bit stinky!!

We decided to see the gorge the tight ass way and hike it rather than fork out for another boat ride along another gorge! However to see all of the 13 gorges here would take a lot of hiking, most do it in around 5 days, so instead we hiked to the first lookout, saw a part of the gorge from the great vantage point that we had and called it a day!

We then went and had a look at the Aboriginal art at Top Didj Art Gallery. This also doubled as an animal shelter, and a baby wallaby came out to say hello, much to the kids delight. We took in the Katherine museum, and then set off to find the hot springs, although we were a bit dubious as it claimed the water is 32C and as it is so hot we were more in need of a swimming pool! The water, however was beautiful and we spent a long while here!

After this, we stocked up on supplies before heading back to the park. We decided to try cooking a roast in the electric frypan and it turned out pretty well for our first crack! The Sydney crew arrived today and checked in beside us so it was 500 'till bed!
