Mindil Market

We had a rather relaxed morning this morning, with the kids getting a fair amount of their homework done. Troy and I sat down to plan the next leg of our journey through Kakadu, we did a bit of grocery shopping for the next few days, then set off for our last visit to Darwin. We firstly cooled off in the wave lagoon, Troy and I joining in this time! It was very relaxing, sitting in a tube and rocking through the waves. Troy, Ronan and Stella were a bit more adventurous and tried to catch a few. We also had a chat to a few sailors (hello boys!) as an Indian navy vessel was in town.

Once dressed again we headed down to Mindil beach for the market. It took us a while to get there as there was a big car accident which caused a bit of chaos in the usually quieter streets of Darwin. Mindil market is a great night market, with heaps of food vendors of all different nationalities.

There was also a lot of craft stalls and a few musicians and street performers. It is also the place to see a good sunset, along with thousands of other people!!

One of the musicians that we saw was able to play four didgeridoos. It was quite impressive.

The kids were very impressed with the street performer who could breathe fire. They thought he was excellent!! We strolled around for ages, sampling all sorts of different food. Ronan and Stella were able to try their hands at cracking a whip. Some of the kids there that tried were excellent. Ronan got the whip to make a bit of a crack, although he nearly took his eye out in the process! Our best purchase though, as far as I'm concerned, was some moisturiser that repels mozzies. Will be putting that to the test in the next couple of days!!
