Cape Leveque

This morning we left Oz to fend for herself for a couple of days, picked up our 4WD, dropped Yeti off for some TLC at a service centre in Broome, and set off bound for Cape Leveque. The road was sealed for a few kilometres, bit quickly turned nasty! Very pleased we are not driving our own car, even if we had a 4WD! We stopped along the way at the Willie Creek Pearl Farm and did a tour there.

It was quite interesting, we learned a lot about oysters, and had a short cruise around Willie Creek, before being ushered into the showroom for the big sales plug!! We scootered out quickly and set off on our way again. A little way down the road we came across a damsel in distress!! A lady had got herself stuck in the rough while moving out of the way of an oncoming car. Troy Dan sprang into action, jumping out quick smart, raring to use his new (and borrowed!) toy and put it to good use! Luckily the lady had a tow rope, Troy connected the two cars and pulled her out. All well, we set on our merry way once again.

We headed into Beagle Bay, as I had read about a church that had an altar made completely of pearl shells that I thought would be worth taking a look at. Beagle Bay itself was a rather interesting little town, made up mainly of broken down 4WDs left on the side of the road! The church was not worth the detour, but we took a picture and continued on.

We then headed to Lombadina after being told that the Aboriginal folk here make the most amazing bread. Unfortunately they had sold out, so we continued on! Finally we made it to Cape Leveque, checked in and drove around to our cabin, which was not quite what I was expecting, but better! It is all open and has the most amazing view of the ocean.

We settled in, then caught up with our travelling companions from Sydney, and found a spot on Western Beach to watch the sunset, which was again brilliant!

We all came back to our cabin for dinner, before calling it a night. Despite having no windows, it was a very hot night, and we went to sleep with the sound of the ocean and all the bugs that are outside our mozzie nets!!
