Stranded

We are totally amazed at how rapidly this weather is changing here at the moment! While we had plans today to head down to Yardie Creek and to also do a little more snorkelling at Turquoise Bay the heavens obviously had other plans unleashing another 200mm or so of rain on us over night. It got so bad Troy went out in the middle of the night to bring the annex in just in case! Everything underneath was getting wet anyway. While he was out there, he enjoyed a great shower, as we don't have showers here, only our makeshift bucket-style one!!  When we awoke in the morning we found the road out of our campsite was flooded as was the road to Yardie Creek, which this bus driver found out the hard way!!

Troy played SES volunteer and helped all the oldies that were on their way down to Yardie Creek get their things off one bus and onto another! It was all very exciting for them!!

The day turned out to be quite warm and we spent most of it drying out our stuff, which gave us something to do as we couldn't go anywhere!! We didn't fair quite as badly as the poor group a few sites down staying in tents, and tiny ones at that!

This afternoon Troy and I went for a hike into Cape Range National Park. We couldn't go in very far as the roads are still all sealed off, but we were told of this nice walk where rock wallabies can be seen in the afternoon. The gorge was pretty great, more impressive with all the debris at the bottom from the recent rain! We saw a few rock wallabies and kangas, and we saw our first snake! It was only a little one thankfully!

We met at the usual spot for happy hour again tonight, chatting with some German travellers, as well as a couple from Sydney and some others from Perth, before returning to our site for tea!
